FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

1. Can anyone be in liberarti?
Yes.

2. Do I have to pay to participate?
No. Of course not. liberarti is free for all participants, artists and audience members. Contrary to some other events, there is no fee for participating, and all works and listings will be advertised free via the web and a regular e-mail newsletter.

3. What kind of projects are eligible?
Any art project which is non-monetary and takes place in public or quasi-public space.

4. What do you mean by non-monetary?
Anything where no money changes hands, i.e. where nothing is bought or sold, and no admission is charged.

5. What do you mean by public or quasi-public space?
Any space the public is free to enter. This includes the streets and pavements and public squares of course, and also commercial space like stores and bars. This also includes space which is ordinarily private, such as studios, offices, or apartments if they are open to the public for specific periods of time, or by appointment.

6. Is it safe to allow free entry to my studio?
Artists are free to limit entry for safety purposes, (r.o.a.r., etc). provided that no charge is made to enter or leave the vicinity of the work.

7. How many projects can I enter?
As many as you like. They can be in different formats or disciplines, providing that they are freely accessible to the people of Plymouth and beyond.

8. How will people find out about my work?
Each artist will have a page on the liberarti website with a description of the project and information about how to find it. Sheets with project information will be available at the liberarti exhibition spaces. Newsletters and press releases will also be created.

9. Does liberarti have an indoor space to hang or install art?
On a temporary basis, yes. However the only fixed exhibition space of liberarti is the public space of the city.

10. If I am a painter, sculptor, designer, photographer or other producer of art normally seen on walls or in galleries, how can I participate?
There are many possibilities. Some participants are organizing shows and events in studios, apartments, public venues, bus stations, bus stops, etc. Consider sending small works to be given away by random distribution (see web guidelines). It is also possible to make work that can be distributed on street corners or installed throughout the city as flyers, stickers, stencils, murals, installations, screenings, projections and sound pieces, etc.

11. Is this legal?
Use your best judgment when planning work in public space. We do not advocate doing anything illegal. We also do not wish to exclude the potential for audience participation by advocating work that may exclude or offend others. All works remain the property of the individual artists, without reservation. The responsibility for the content remains with the artist/protagonist who is deemed to be morally and legally liable for such content, by choosing to participate.

12. What if I want to be part of liberarti but I'm not sure what I want to do?
E-mail and let us know your ideas if you're thinking of participating. liberarti will be happy to answer any questions, etc.

13. Do you have any money to give participating artists for materials, travel, bursaries, etc.?
No. The limited budget available is being used for organizing the website and for promoting artists' projects.

15. What if I am far away from the liberarti lounge?
If it is not possible to travel to any of the events, there are lots of ways to participate from a distance. Any form of communication that can be accessed by a person in the same city as the event is eligible, for instance, web, mail, telephone, satellite broadcast, etc. You can also ask someone in the same city as the event to help you realise your project, for instance by distributing works you send them or carrying out your detailed performance instructions.

16. What are the deadlines?
There are no current deadlines for submission, these will be introduced when a new liberarti lounge is announced. In the meantime keep submitting work to be viewed online and at each event all the work will be presented.
